following the signs
On my way back from dropping my kids at school on Friday, I pressed play (pun!) on my 80s playlist and scrolled down to “Voices Carry” by ’Til Tuesday.
Remember that band? Probably not. But you know the song, like the many tunes you know every word to but have no idea why, the songs that defined the greatest decade of one-hit wonders.
I did what I always do when I play music and drive. Sing badly and loudly, and forget the day ahead of me for a few minutes.
But why am I telling you this story?
Because a few hours later, I was sitting at my desk in my Zoom outfit (business on top, sweats down below) and a radio station was playing music in the background.
I got up to make my 3rd (and final??) cup of coffee and what did I hear?
"Voices Carry" by Til’ Tuesday.
I think the last time I heard that song before the two times I heard it today was in the 90s.
Is that synchronicity?
Then I thought about my friend who told me he RAN INTO his friend from NY on a train in Europe.
Is that synchronicity?
I can’t tell you how many stories I have like these… in fact, I try to keep up with the running tally of stories in my iPhone notes as if I’m going to one day make sense of it all.
But I think the point is not to make sense of those moments.
The point may be to see it as a nod from the universe, a sign that the direction you’re moving is the direction you’re supposed to go.
It’s about connecting to the energy that surrounds us, the energy we swim in and sometimes forget we can shift and channel.
When you tap in, I bet you’ll see someone you just mentioned, or hear something you just heard.
Maybe, if you’re lucky, you’ll hear an 80s one-hit wonder twice in one day.
Let me know what you find! I love hearing your stories.
p.s. On a related note, after I wrote this, I saw our March animal messenger - the lion - outside of my daughters’ gymnastics meet on Long Island. Why would a lion statue be outside the entrance to a gymnastics meet? I have no idea. But I laughed out loud and captured it for you.
With fierce love,
Alison
